PDF to text: what changes?

Your PDF source

This route reads the PDF’s embedded text items. A page that is only a scanned picture has no recognized text for the extractor to recover.

The TXT result

The TXT output combines extracted page text with line breaks. Fonts, columns, precise spacing, and page graphics are not preserved as a document layout.

Review reading order, especially in tables and columns. The current local limit is 20 MB and 30 pages; OCR is not included.

A PRACTICAL GUIDE

PDF and Plain text: choose the right result

Use PDF to text when the destination needs Plain text rather than the original PDF representation. Only text already embedded in the PDF can be extracted. Scanned pages need separate OCR, and reading order can differ in columns or tables.

Frequently asked questions

Why was no text found in my scanned PDF?

A scan can contain only page images. This extractor needs embedded text; a separate OCR process is required to recognize words in pictures.

Will the text file look exactly like the PDF layout?

No. The extractor collects embedded text items into plain text. Columns, tables, and spacing may need manual cleanup.

Can I extract text from a photo-only PDF?

Not with this tool. A picture of words needs OCR; this workflow reads text already embedded in the document.

What happens when the PDF has several pages?

The extracted text from the supported pages is combined into one text result. The current document limits are 20 MB and 30 pages.
